Phoenix Rising Regional Event
Written by Tim Peverley
Thursday, 02 April 2009

The Prescott Regional event was great fun.  It was wonderful to have so many familiar faces from California attend the event.  We heard about the event from Tim, and signed up on the website so that we could attend.  Some of us left early to visit relatives in AZ while others left on Friday morning to arrive in Prescott in the early afternoon.

We found the Comfort Inn around 4:00 and were greeted by members of the Phoenix and Fresno chapters who had already arrived.  We checked in and went to the parking lot to see who else was there and await the arrival of other members.  After relaxing in the parking lot and checking out the newest modifications on everyone's cars, we adjourned to the extremely large Jacuzzi area and relaxed with cool drinks and chips and salsa.  More folks got to the Inn and we were beginning to get hungry so we headed into Prescott proper for dinner at the Gurley Street Grill.  It is supposed to be one of the top rated restaurants in Prescott.  We were taken out onto the back patio which we practically filled.  They had two long tables waiting for us.

We met new members from Prescott and made friends with other people who were new since our last trip to Tombstone.  With dinner over, we headed back to the Inn to call it a night.  We would be leaving bright and early on Saturday to head down to Phoenix.

2008 Regional Meet was a Smashing Success!
Written by Tim Peverley
Monday, 18 August 2008

OK, so the weekend didn't go without incident, but even though one of our participants managed to "smash" their front end a bit, at least no one was hurt, and there is one SKY owner who can now justify upgrading to a cool new aftermarket front end for his roadster.

This weekends' festivities included three major events.

FRIDAY NIGHT AT THE STRIP CLUB - The welcome gathering at the Gas Lamp Strip Club included about 35 people who enjoyed dinner together.  The "Strip Club" is a steak house famouse for their New York Strip Steak, and we reserved the "Champaign Room" in the back for our gathering.

SATURDAY COAST RIDE - The coast ride left from Jolly Roger restaurant in Oceanside at 9:30 AM, and meandered along the coast ending at Seaport Village in downtown San Diego.  The highlights of the trip included a 43 car line-up along "the Strand" in Oceanside, a group photo at the Torey Pines Glider Port, and bluff-view drive out to La Jolla Cove.  With a couple of cars coming and going (and occassionally getting separated) along the way, we had a total of 45 roadsters for most of the ride.

SUNDAY TEMECULA RIDE - Our Sunday ride included a photo stop out at the property of one of the Phoenix members who's home burned down in the fires out in Fallbrook, and then we dropped by Kappasphere for a tour of their facilities.  From there, we split into two groups, about 12 cars going to downtown Temecula for a walking tour, and another 17 heading out to visit the wineries.

Las Vegas Nationals & Route 66 Fun Run
Written by Tim Peverley
Friday, 09 May 2008

Well folks, we had a great run to Vegas Nationals. Thursday morning Jim & Maxine, Nighia & Mi and I headed north for a nice ride to Vegas with a stop at Barstow Station, that was a cool tourist trap, and there were a number of cool bikes headed to laughlin for the river run. We met Chris & Micky on the way and they joined us for the rest of the ride into Vegas. Friday morning we meet at the Stratoshpere parking lot, got registered and just hung out with others as the arrived. There ended up over 100 cars from all parts of the country. I have yet to down load any photos, still learning, but they are posted on the sky forum and on the sky-sol web site. There were some really cool mods, and a couple of V-8 Solstices. There were several vendors with really cool products. Some really great rides were also on tap. The Red Rock canyon, Valley of Fire and Mt Charleston runs were really fun, but the strip run was awesome! 100+ cars going down the strip together was a highlight for me! Saturday night we had a great banquet with some really nice raffle prizes awarded. The money from the raffle went to the make-a-wish foundation. We had a nice showing of cars from San Diego, Steve & Silka, Jim & Ellen, Bill & Karen, Jim & Maxine, and Figure this one out, Nighia his wife Mi and Daughter Nicole came up!

I think it is safe to say that we all had a great time!!

After the Vegas run I Met my Lovely Bride Lori in Palm Springs. She had a conference there so I just went to hang out with her. During the day while she was in meetings, I spent the part of the days downtown doing a one man car show! It was cool to park on the main street, then get coffee and sit were I could see my car and then just watch people as they passed by. I quit counting the number of people stopping, commenting and taking pictures of my really cool car!

After a few days in Palm Springs we headed to Seligman AZ for the Route 66 fun run. We met with 4 other Sky's from Pheonix and had a Blast! There were over 900 cars, every type and vintage from as far away as England! We traveled "THE MOTHER ROAD" for about 50 miles to Kingman, that was cool, many people on the side of the road, waving, honking and cheering us on! Talk about a parade!! Once in Kingman there was a Hugh car show! We didn't park in the main "car show" area, but it soon filled up so we were joined by a bunch of really cool cars. Alot of people were checking out our fine rides! Again many questions and photos taken. Sunday morning it was on the Topock Az again on the old route 66. I wonder how those in the 30's & 40's enjoyed that road, with no power steering, power brakes or air conditioning? Not to mention the steep hillsides and drop offs with no guard rails? A cool town we went through was Oatman Az. It was an old mining town, now a tourist trap but a really cool one. They had Burro's from the mining day's still in the area, that was cool to see.

We will have to make the route 66 run on our own one day, when it is cooler!

Again Photo's of Vegas are on the sky forum and at www.sky-sol.com

Julian Trip in Saturn 360 Magazine
Written by Rich M
Friday, 28 March 2008

saturn360-sandiegoroadsters-pg1-300w.jpgI was recently given a copy of the FIRST ISSUE of Saturn 360 Magazine, which is published by Saturn and distributed via the dealerships (although subscriptions are available).

On the front cover, it read "SKY Owners California Road Trip" and I was delighted to open it up and an article about a "SoCal Side Trip" although since I didn't recognize the people in the photo, I assumed it was something new.  Then I read the photo caption "And yes, there is room in the trunk to take a pie home..." and I immediately thought of our great trip to Julian last year.

We have a detailed article about this trip on our website (click here), so I was interested to see what the folks at Saturn wrote about our trip.  The article started out:

Rain dampened the moring with Tim Peverly and his wife Lori met members of the San Diego Roadsters and Phoenix-are SKY owners at a San Diego hotel.  Over breakfast, they optimistically discussed a quick road trip.

"We were determined to have a great day despite the weather," Tim Peverly says, "We had a short meeting and passed out the radios.  Communication is the key to a good group ride.  About 15 of us headed north to Lake Wohlford  We pulled off at a parking area near the lake for a quick photo and to take our tops down, as the rain had stopped and there were beautiful blue skies overhead."

Surfs Up at San Diego Regional Meet
Written by San Diego Roadsters
Sunday, 26 August 2007

2007sandiegoweekend-seaside450.jpgThis weekend, the San Diego Roadsters club was delighted to welcome more than two dozens Skys and Solstices from Arizona and Southern California for two days of rides, seaside fun, great food, and adventure.  This was the first regional event in San Diego, and we are truly thankful to the Phoenix Sky-Sol club for making this event a huge success.

DAY 1 - Coastal Run

About 20 people from Arizona (plus a few other SoCal folks) left the Best Western hotel on Hotel Circle and met up with our local San Diego crowd at the Joe's Crab Shack parking lot in Oceanside Harbor.  In addition to our most active San Diego club members, we were delighted to see some old and new friends from Los Angeles, plus a sneak peak at the new Kappasphere Sky, showing off their new luggage rack, plus several other cool new products.

Leaving the harbor, we headed directly down to the beach and lined up our 25 roadsters along the sand on the Oceanside Strand just South of the pier.  The line of cars was so long that nobody could get a complete shot, but we did manage to post a few pictures in our San Diego Weekend Sky & Solstice Photo Gallery

0708sd1-P8250010.JPG.jpg

From the beach in Oceanside, we headed up to the Coastal highway to begin our two-hour cruise South to Mission Bay in San Diego.  We had twenty-six cars and more than 40 people.  At one point, Vicci pulled out fifty lottery tickets from Arizona's $300 million powerball lottery to be held later that evening, and everyone contributed a dollar with their name on it to get in on the lottery.  Then, throughout the day, when people asked if we were a part of a car club (as they always do), rather than just answering yes, we started getting creative, telling people that we won $300 million in the lottery and this was part of our reward.
